IMP Academy is offering a four-level work/learn apprenticeship program for Aircraft Maintenance Technicians. Priority will be given to those who have successfully completed the Introduction to Aerospace Skilled Trades Program, although others who possess equivalent skills and knowledge may also apply. The program length is approximately four years.
Successful applicants will be offered employment at IMP Aerospace & Defence. Upon commencement of employment at IMP on either campus, apprentices will receive statutory holidays and limited benefits once they have served the waiting period prescribed by the plan, which includes health, dental, and extended health insurance.
This program is currently being offered with no tuition or textbook fees for those who successfully complete the program. In return, graduates will commit to a set period of employment with IMP Aerospace & Defence after completing the certification and on the job training.
An Aircraft Maintenance Technician (AMT) performs inspections and troubleshooting of aircraft systems and components, including airframe structures, engines and aircraft systems, disassembly and removal of defective parts, assembly, and installation of replacement parts, interprets technical manuals, drawings and blueprints, tests aircraft systems, records problems and actions taken to rectify them, and maintains an accurate statement of the maintenance history of the aircraft.
IMP Academy apprentices will complete this basic training program over four levels using over 150 comprehensive computer-based modules. Each level takes approximately one year to complete and includes 480+ hours of classroom learning and practical skills labs followed up by several months of on-the-job-training in a hangar environment at each level. For more information on the courses in each level email academy@impaerospace.com (Halifax) or academy@cascadeaerospace.com (Abbotsford).
Graduates from both campuses will be qualified Aircraft Maintenance Technicians. Additionally, the courseware used in this program is accepted by Transport Canada and applicable for those wishing to eventually pursue an AME-M license through Transport Canada.
